Anxiety

Panic rises from inside of me,
crawling out of my body to get free.
My chest grows harshly tight,
anxiety squeezes me with all its might.
My heart is beating at a rapid pace,
tears start flowing down my face.
Teeth are clenching down on my lip,
begging me to calm down and get a grip.
Everything around me is spinning in a rush.
Noises are screaming in my ears that I can’t seem to hush.
Long fingernails dig into my knees,
until the anxiety begins to ease.
Helplessly I wait for my mind to start to comprehend;
I’m still sitting here waiting for this to end.
